Аннотация: В статье рассматривается история становления кафедры иностранных языков Хабаровского института инженеров железнодорожного транспорта (нынешний ДВГУПС) в 1940–1944 гг. На основе архивных документов анализируются особенности формирования профессорско-преподавательского состава, организация учебного процесса, учебно-методическая деятельность кафедры, а также влияние Великой Отечественной войны на её функционирование. Особое внимание уделено деятельности первых преподавателей и заведующих кафедрой, внесших значительный вклад в развитие методики преподавания иностранных языков и подготовку инженерных кадров. Сделан вывод, что, несмотря на кадровые и организационные трудности первых лет существования института, кафедра иностранных языков успешно выполнила задачи по обеспечению образовательного процесса и заложила основы своего дальнейшего развития.

Abstract: The article examines the history of the formation of the Department of Foreign Languages at the Khabarovsk Institute of Railway Transport Engineers (now Far Eastern State Transport University) in 1940–1944. Based on archival documents, the paper analyses the specifics of the formation of the teaching staff, the organisation of the educational process, and the department’s educational and methodological activities, as well as the impact of the Great Patriotic War on its functioning. Particular attention is paid to the work of the first teachers and heads of the department, who made a significant contribution to the development of foreign language teaching methods and the training of engineering personnel. The conclusion is that, despite the staffing and organisational difficulties in the early years of the institute’s existence, the Department of Foreign Languages successfully fulfilled its tasks in supporting the educational process and laid the foundations for its further development.
